We’re very pleased to announce that the star of our film, Ahmad Zakii Anwar, will be taking part in an event at the London School of Economics!
On Saturday 28 February 2015, Zakii appears as a panelist in a special discussion about Southeast Asia’s creative voices and choices in a region better known for its economic ambitions and achievements. Zakii joins producer and director Nickson Fong and author / performer Yang-May Ooi in London at this event titled ‘Rebellion and Foundation: Southeast Asia, the UK, and 50 Years of Development.’ To find out more, here’s the event link: http://www.lse.ac.uk/SEAC/events/Events/150228_Rebellion-and-Foundation.aspx
Together the panelists will discuss their experiences as creative individuals within the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (“ASEAN”), an organisation that promotes economic growth in countries such as Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. The year 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of when the region seceded from Western political and economic control, and the talk will examine how, when economic success races ahead of everything else, rebellion and individuality go in surprising new directions.
‘Rebellion and Foundation’ is being organised in part by our very own Jin-Theng Craven and promises to be an enlightening event, as well as a chance for us to encounter Zakii on the international stage. If you’d like to attend, it’s free and open to members of the public. However, since public events at the LSE are often very popular we recommend booking places in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.
